The Sassanids had a highly developed administration, but only the clay bullae, that accompanied the documents, and a number of stamp seals and rings have been preserved. The stamp seals were made from different stones, and the shapes could alter. Generally, the inscriptions mention the name and the profession of the owner. Figurative representations often have a religious meaning, or refer to the life at the court.
